The Real Estate Industry Has a Diversity Problem. Downtown Expert Realty in St. Pete Wants to Fix That.

Downtown Expert Realty launched in St. Petersburg a year ago, and they’ve been hard at work building an experienced, motivated team of real estate professionals, all while focusing on diversity and inclusion. To broaden horizons for future realtors, they've recently launched the Downtown Expert School of Real Estate, to provide comprehensive training and certification for new professionals in the St. Petersburg area.

From its inception, Downtown Expert Realty has been committed to diversity in the real estate industry. Training programs like theirs go a long way in opening doors for real estate professionals from diverse communities. According to data analysis by the career site Zippia, a whopping 74.2% of real estate agents are white, while only 5% are Black and 12% are Hispanic/Latino. In addition, aspiring realtors from low-income backgrounds may lack the networking and mentorship opportunities that are critical in building a successful real estate career. By providing thorough training and mentorship from expert professionals right here in St. Petersburg, along with networking opportunities and all necessary licensing and certification, Downtown Expert Realty is opening doors for new professionals across the Tampa Bay region, from Daytona to Sarasota and beyond. Virtual classes allow students from across the region to benefit from training and mentorship.

Nicholas Acosta, Downtown Expert Realty’s owner and lead broker, is the chapter president of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP), which champions the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in housing equity and in the real estate profession.  As chapter president, Acosta is proud to advocate for the queer community, and committed to fighting for the inclusion of all minority groups. The insights he’s gained from NAGLREP have proved critical in increasing DEI across the St. Petersburg real estate market.

For this story, we’d provide quotes from the Downtown Expert’s leadership team, as well as educators from the School of Real Estate. We would include details about the training program and its benefits for aspiring real estate professionals. We’d also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion in the real estate market, and how initiatives like these make a difference in creating opportunities for diverse communities in St. Petersburg and beyond!
